How to have an at home spa night

This past week one of my FAVORITE people, Sarah of beretmerry.com, came and stayed with me. We’re both very adamant about self care, so I decided on a whim that we would do a DIY spa night while she stayed with me.

In Sarah’s words, it was like “the magic of sleepovers like when we were kids.” It was so nice and soothing to create a really serene atmosphere specifically for relaxing and treating ourselves. 10/10 would recommend.

Here are the steps I took to turn my apartment into the perfect lil spa atmosphere.

Decorate

I think the most important part of getting a spa-like atmosphere is lighting some candles and having lots of plants. I also put my diffusers on with some lavender essential oil to make the atmosphere more ~zen~.

To get the spa chair kinda vibe, I put some comfy pillows on my couch and then draped my fluffy pink comforter over it. I also put my crystals out–amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, and clear quartz. 🙂

Last but not least, I got on Netflix and pulled up the “fireplace for your house” and played it on my tv.

Here are the finished results! (The lighting isn’t that good, but you get the idea.)

Find a zen playlist

This is perhaps the MOST important part of getting the spa atmosphere. I picked my favorite healing meditation playlist on Spotify and it was perfect.

Mask buffet

Since we were doing the spa night ourselves, I decided to lay out all of our masks & such on the table to make it so that we weren’t having to interrupt spa night over & over to go look for things. I also made some lemon water to be extra.

Relaxing and masking time!

I had no clue about facials whatsoever, so, as I often do, I decided to take to Pinterest to figure out what order we were meant to do things in. I found this super helpful little list from caffeinecuddles.com!

We modified the list just a tiny bit. Here’s what we actually ended up doing:

Cleanse

For this step I used my trusty cetaphil cleanser, same as the diagram. Any cleanser will do.

Steam

To steam, I boiled some water and then put it in bowls with a relaxation essential oil blend. Then, we draped some towels over our heads and then put our heads over the bowls. It was really soothing.

Clay mask

We were both breaking out so we decided to use the aztec clay healing mask before exfoliating.

Exfoliate

We used my Clinique exfoliator, but literally any exfoliating facial wash will work. I only used that one because I got it as a gift and it’s the only one I have.

Hydrate

For this step we used my green matcha soothing mask from the I dew care trio. It worked so well and smells SO good. *insert drooling emoji*

Moisturize

I skipped the “tone and replenish” steps because I didn’t really have anything to use for them. But to moisturize we used my good ol’ cetaphil moisturizer.

Set

We set our faces with some cool cucumber water spray. It was glorious.

After all that, we sat down and watched Howl’s Moving Castle. Perfect end to spa night, if you ask me. (Howl is actually my husband don’t @ me).

A spa night is the perfect recipe for a magical self care slumber party. I think it would be just as magical to do it alone, though. Either way, a spa night is a gr8 way to practice self care & self love.

See you next time <3
