It’s that time again to talk about the books I read this past year! About half way through 2021 I wrote a part 1 to this post of the books I read in the first half of the year, so if you’ve not read that one yet you can read it here. Without further ado, let’s get into the books I read in the second half of 2021!
My Goodreads reading goal for 2021 was 25 books and I read exactly that! It always feels so fulfilling to meet the goal.
Books I read
Be Here Now
Fantasy books are the genre I usually read, but this book was the first book about spirituality that I dived into in 2021. I wasn’t a huge fan! I did learn some things from it, but it was written by a white man who geared every anecdote towards men and white people. This book had cultural appropriation vibes for me where he just profited off of sharing other peoples’ ideas and culture. I’ve read some much better books on spirituality since this book though, luckily.
Serpent & Dove Series
I really liked this series! It’s about witches and the Church, and it’s a great book series to read if you’re into the enemies to lovers trope.
Psychic Witch
This book was definitely one of my favorite books I read in 2021. I think I took more away from this book than I did from any other book I read. If you’re into witchy things and want to learn how to tap into psychic abilities, this is a great book to learn from. I’ll probably reread it soon.
Animal Communication Made Easy
I really love animals and feel like I have a natural affinity for communicating with them, but I really wanted to learn how to better communicate with them, so I read this book. I really liked it and it taught me a lot! It’s really helped me build a deeper bond with my dog and animals in general. Definitely recommend if you’re wanting to learn how to communicate with animals!
The Green Witch
This book is a good one for beginners! I enjoyed reading it, it was just a little too vague and repetitive for me to learn a whole lot. Still a good one to start with if you’re interested in learning the basics of green witchcraft!
Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents
This is another one of my favorite books that I read in 2021! I liked it so much I even talked one of my friends into reading it and they liked it as much as I did. I also gush about it to literally anyone who talks about interactions with emotionally immature people. This book helped me towards healing some childhood trauma and has really helped me with some of the relationships in my life. This is a great book to read not only if you expect you have emotionally immature parents, but also if you’re dealing with emotionally immature people in any capacity.
The Mountain is You
This is another book I really liked reading. It helped me to evaluate my self sabotaging behaviors and also helped me learn what I can do moving forward! It’s a great book to read if you have a habit of getting in your own way when it comes to getting what you want in life.
sweet like limes
My bestie got me this book for my birthday. It’s a sweet little poetry book about the ups and downs of love.
Realm Breaker
I am a huge fan of Victoria Aveyard, so I just had to read this book. It is objectively a good high fantasy book. I didn’t like it very much, though. I found it really slow paced and hard to read a lot of the time, along with the characters being a little dull and boring. But if you’re into really complex world building with a slow-build story line, this is the book for you!
Once Upon a Broken Heart
I LOVED this book. This book is by the same author as the Caraval series. It is so good!!! The author is the best at writing the most magically atmospheric books with a sprinkle of romance. I can’t wait to read the next book.
A Shadow in the Ember
Earlier in the year I read the From Blood and Ash series, and it quickly became my favorite series right after a Court of Thorns and Roses. So when I heard that the author came out with a book of the story that comes before From Blood and Ash, I just had to read it. It was so good! A lot of people have complained that it was a little too similar to From Blood and Ash, but hey, if it works it works. I noticed the similarities, but I still enjoyed it a lot.
A Gentle Reminder
This is such a lovely book! It’s a great book for anyone who’s ever felt “not enough.” It’s really helped my mindset surrounding past relationships and pursuing future ones. My only issue with it is that it was a little repetitive, but I’d still recommend it.
Kingdom of the Wicked
This was the last book I read in 2021. It’s about witches and devils, and I’m obsessed. It gives off very gothic vibes. It is set in Italy and talks a lot about food, so I was always getting hungry when I read it lol.
Okay that’s it for the books I read in 2021! There were some really great ones, and some that I wasn’t the biggest fan of. Now moving onto…
Currently Reading
Kingdom of the Cursed
This is the book that comes after the one I was just talking about. I’m liking it so far! I’ll talk about it more later in the year when I post about the books I’ve read in 2022.
Alright, that’s it for the books I read in 2021 and what I’m currently reading! Be on the lookout for my 2022 reading list, which should be posted soon!
