A College Girl’s Guide: How to look Gorgeous without Makeup

Makeup is such a big part of our society, and although it can be nice to wear at times, it is mostly a hassle–especially if you’re in college and are short on time. What if I were to tell you that there are ways that you can look beautiful without makeup? Ways that you can look like the prettiest version of yourself?

Like many people have, I have struggled with acne and breakouts since middle school. I was a cheerleader in high school, and I remember crying before many football games my freshman year because no amount of makeup would cover my massive pimples. Not only can acne make you really self conscious, but it can also be really painful. Over the years I have taken various acne medications, (all of them had super weird side effects, like turning my shins blue, yikes) and I am finally at a point where I do not have to take any medication, and I rarely get a single pimple! I have put all of my secrets together in this post to help other girls who, like me, want to be confident without wearing any makeup.

Drinking water has numerous benefits. Because it clears the body of toxins, water can take your skin from looking dull to looking radiant. Drinking the right amount of water for your body will give you that “glow” that everyone is always talking about! To drink the right amount of water everyday, it is important that you are consciously drinking water throughout the day. To do this, you have to have access to water all of the time. I would suggest getting a water bottle that you can carry around with you everywhere. I have a Camelbak that I take with me everywhere and it is so convenient.

Wash your Face Every Day 

Some people can never wash their faces, and still not ever get a single pimple. However, most of us are not blessed with this magical trait. It is really important to cleanse your face of the dirt and things that get on your skin throughout the day. If you’re like me and your pores get clogged easily, you need to wash your face every day–preferably in the morning and at night. I use Cetaphil facial cleanser and it works really well. It is one of the only cleansers that I have tried that doesn’t dry my face out.



Avoid too much Sugar

Everyone has different trigger foods/ drinks that can cause them to break out. For example, every time I get a mango sweet tea from Sonic I break out. I love mango sweet tea *sigh* but I have to avoid drinking it because it isn’t good for my skin. If you get a breakout, it is a good idea to figure out if something you ate could have caused it. Once you figure out what foods or drinks cause your breakouts, even if you love them…..let them go.

Moisturize

Moisturizing is a really important part of looking pretty without makeup. It keeps your skin hydrated, and like water, also keeps your skin from looking dull. It can also help prevent wrinkles, which is also a plus. So, if you don’t want to wear makeup, definitely put some moisturizer on to make sure you look refreshed. I have found that the moisturizer that works the best is Cetaphil Moisturizer. It is one of the only moisturizers that I have tried that moisturizes my skin without making it oily!

*pro tip: while applying your moisturizer, lightly tap it into your skin with your hands. This will help your skin absorb it better and will get your blood circulating, making your skin even more glowy!

Tea Tree Oil

A few weeks ago, I ran out of my $300 *yikes* acne cream that I had been using for 2 years. It was prescribed by my dermatologist, but my prescription ran out. I had heard/read a lot of good things about tea tree oil, so I decided to try it out. I started mixing 1-5 drops (depending on if my face is pretty clear or not) with my moisturizer every night and morning, and guess what? It works better than my acne medication did. I know what you’re thinking, “No way! No way it works better than your $300 acne cream!!” But it seriously does. I know, I am also a little bit disturbed about this as well. So, if you’re looking to clear your acne, tea tree oil is the answer!

Sadly, we are not all blessed with black and curly goddess lashes, so that makes it hard to want to go out of the house without wearing some mascara. BUT! There is a way to make your lashes darker and longer without wearing mascara (which has some pretty harsh chemicals.) You guessed it! Coconut oil! Not only does it make your lashes look longer and darker when you put it on, but coconut oil also makes your eyelashes grow. Just twirl some coconut oil onto a spooly and run it through your eyelashes and you’re good to go!

Drink Herbal Tea

I love herbal tea. It is so good for you! Most herbal teas are packed with antioxidants. Different teas serve different purposes, but my favorite tea to drink for skincare is cinnamon vanilla tea. Minimize Stress

Be Confident

Always remember that no matter what society tells you, you are beautiful just the way you are! It isn’t makeup or pretty clothes that make a woman beautiful, it’s confidence. Be confident in the fact that you are a you, a confident, intelligent, funny, brave, courageous woman, (or man) and you will shine in every situation!
