Ideas for winter graduation pictures can be SO HARD to find. I graduated college during the winter, and had such a hard time finding cute ideas for my grad pics.

It might seem like your options for cute graduation pictures are limited in the winter, but there are actually so many different, unique options for graduation pictures that you can do when it’s cold out.

Here are some of my absolute favorite graduation picture ideas for winter grads (as someone who was a winter grad myself!)

This post is all about cute winter graduation pictures ideas.

1. Pics In The Snow

If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere where it snows, it would be SO cute to get some grad pics in the snow. I would’ve LOVED to do this for my graduation pictures, but I live in (and graduated in) Oklahoma and we hardly ever get snow.

2. Picture With Flowers

This kind of picture isn’t necessarily specific to winter graduations, but I’ve been seeing this idea a lot and I absolutely love it. I feel like it captures a quiet kind of joy that you’ll have on graduation day.

3. Cap Throw Winter Sunset Pic

Cap throw pics are an absolute staple, and a picture like this with the sunset would be so cute to do in the winter (I feel like sunsets are the prettiest in winter, and google confirmed!)

4. Library Pictures

I really wish I had done some pictures like this for my graduation. In retrospect I can say it would’ve been really nice to have some pictures of me in places I frequented on campus that I could look back on.

Library pictures are so cute. Although pictures like this might not be the most exciting/ scenic (although I think they’re a vibe), you’ll definitely cherish pictures of you in places where you actually spent a lot of time on campus.

5. Hot & Smart Cake Picture

I’ve seen this grad pic all over the place, and I’m obsessed! It is so cute. I am 99% sure that is a fake print out of a cake and not an actual cake. I think they have print outs you can get on etsy, or you could DIY it!

6. Indoor Botanical Garden Photoshoot

This is one of the BEST winter graduation photoshoot hacks. If you’re wanting to take cute pictures with some flowers and greenery but everything is dead outside, take a trip to your closest indoor botanical garden!

We have one here in OKC that I’ve seen a ton of people do their graduation pictures at, and they always turn out SO good. Plus, it’ll be warm in there and you won’t have to suffer winter temps!

7. Indoor Stairs Pics

Stair pictures are another staple for graduation pics, but in the winter it might be too cold to take them on stairs outside. Your best bet is finding a cute set of stairs inside where there is some good lighting for pics!

8. Snow Pics Without Cap & Gown

You would really have to brave the cold for pictures like this, but they could turn out so pretty if you’re willing to do it!

9. Pink Cap & Gown Pics

If you’re someone like me who loves pink, doing your graduation pics in a pink cap and gown would be so insanely cute. I wish I’d done something like this for my grad pics!

10. Art Grad Pics

These pictures would be especially good if you’re an art student, but they’d be cute for anyone to do! If you have any indoor art displays on campus, it would be the perfect place for some winter grad pics. You could also go to a local art museum/ installation (make sure they’ll let you take pictures there, though).

11. Wear A Warm Outfit For The Pics

If you’re really wanting to take some outdoor pictures but it’s cold where you are in the winter, you could wear an outfit like this instead of wearing a dress! It’d make it a lot easier to take pictures in the cold.

12. Incorporate Fall/ Winter Florals

One of my favorite graduation picture ideas is to take pictures with flowers, but you don’t have a ton of options for that in the winter. If you can find some fall/ winter florals (depending on when you’re taking your pics) it would make for some beautiful and unique grad pics!

13. Pics With The Campus Christmas Tree

If there is a pretty tree on campus, you could take some pictures with it for graduation! I don’t remember if my campus tree was up or not when I took my pictures, but I really wish I would’ve thought of doing something like this.

Alternatively, if there isn’t a good tree on campus you could take pictures with, you could take some at a tree farm or some other event that has a tree!

14. Brave The Cold

If you’re brave, you could get some pretty outdoor winter pictures like this one! You’ll have to be a little more creative than people have to be when taking their pics in the spring/ summer, but there is potential for getting some pretty and unique pictures in the winter!

15. Find The Spots For Good Pics Indoors/ In Hallways

There are tons of hallways/ spaces between buildings on college campuses that would be perfect for taking pictures at in the winter. These spots will likely be a lot warmer than being entirely outside since the wind will probably be blocked by other buildings, but you could probably still get pretty natural lighting at these spots.

You could also probably find some pretty spots completely indoors to take pictures at! Lighting might be a challenge, especially in the winter, but if your photographer has a lighting set up you should be good. You could also try to find spots with big windows and natural light coming in if you don’t have any kind of lighting equipment!

16. Cute Pics At The Ceremony

This is another idea that isn’t really exclusive to winter graduation, but it’d be so cute! Plus, for a winter graduation it’d probably be better to snap some pics inside if you can. I remember after my college graduation everyone went outside to take pictures and it was FREEZING.

17. Take Pics Early

If all else fails, you can always take your graduation pictures early (if it’s not too late). I’ve heard of a lot of people taking theirs a semester before they graduate so they can take advantage of the warm weather/ being tan.

I think winter graduation pictures have a lot of charm and are more unique since a lot less people graduate in the winter, but to each their own!
