With the “that girl” trend that has been all over the internet recently, lots of people have been trying to figure out how to look pretty without makeup.
If you’re like me, you’ve probably been on a search for ways to always look glowy and refreshed, even without using makeup. As someone who used to have really bad acne, for the past few years I’ve tried to avoid heavy makeup as much as possible to avoid irritating my skin.
Here are all of my best tips I’ve learned while trying to figure out how to look good without makeup.

Skincare
Skincare is the MOST important thing when it comes to looking good without makeup. If you can achieve having glowy skin, there’s not much else you’ll have to do to look good without makeup. Here are some of the most important things to know when it comes to skincare.
Hydrate
I think it is so silly when people are asked how they got their skin clear and their response is “I just drink tons of water!!!” Just drinking water alone usually isn’t enough to give you beautiful skin.
However, it CAN really help. Staying hydrated will clear toxins from the body and can also help keep your skin from being dry.
My favorite way to make sure I’m staying hydrated throughout the day is by keeping an emotional support water bottle close by at all times.
Wash Your Face Every DayÂ
I am always amazed when I hear that some people can never wash their faces and still don’t ever get a single pimple.
However, most of us are not blessed with this magical trait. It is really important to cleanse your face of the dirt and things that get on your skin throughout the day.
The best way to keep your skin looking amazing is washing your face twice a day.
My dermatologist recommended this cleanser to me literally like 10 years ago, and I’ve been using it ever since. When it comes to skincare, simple is the best, so you wanna avoid any harsh cleansers with tons of additives. This cleanser is the perfect gentle cleanser that does a great job without irritating your skin.
Moisturize
Moisturizing is probably the most important part of looking pretty without makeup. It helps your skin stay hydrated and keeps you looking glowy. It can also help prevent wrinkles and all kinds of good stuff.
These are the two moisturizers I use every night and they leave my skin looking SO glowy and hydrated. This brand is seriously the absolute best when it comes to simple and gentle skincare.
Don’t Forget About Your Lips
When it comes to moisturizing, you can’t forget about your lips. Nothing is worse than having flaky, chapped lips.
Having plump, hydrated looking lips is another big part of looking good without makeup. The chemicals in some lip balms actually dry your lips out, so it’s important to find a high quality lip balm that will keep your lips moisturized.
This lip sleeping mask has been so hyped up, and for good reason. It tastes so good and leaves my lips feeling so soft and supple! I’m obsessed and I use it every morning and night before bed. It is also really pretty and glossy to just wear throughout the day.
SPF
Using sunscreen is SO important. To look pretty without makeup and have glowing skin, you need to avoid getting sun damage. SPF can protect your skin from damage and wrinkles.
Something that kept me from wanting to wear SPF for a long time was the fact that every single moisturizer I used that had sunscreen in it made my skin SO greasy. However, I’ve been using this one for the past year and I love it. It leaves my skin feeling so moisturized and looking so glowy without being greasy at all.
Face Massages
Giving yourself face massages is a great way to reduce inflammation, prevent wrinkles, and basically give yourself a little facelift.
There are tons of different techniques for facial massages, whether that is using your hands, a facial roller, or the ancient Chinese gua sha technique. My face always looks so glowy and nice after doing a face massage. I’d definitely recommend looking into some techniques if you’re interested!
Other Important Things To Know
Certain Foods Can Cause Breakouts
Everyone has different trigger foods/ drinks that can cause them to break out. For example, every time I get a mango sweet tea from Sonic I break out. I love mango sweet tea *sigh* but I have to avoid drinking it because it isn’t good for my skin.
If you get a breakout, it is a good idea to figure out if something you ate could have caused it. Once you figure out what foods or drinks cause your breakouts, even if you love them…..let them go.
Some common foods that can trigger breakouts are dairy, peanut butter, and sugar. If you’ve noticed a certain food making you break out, you might want to do some research about foods that can cause you to break out!
You Can Use Coconut Oil For Longer & Darker Lashes
I think mascara is the hardest makeup to let go if you’re looking to go makeup-less. The good news is, there are ways to make your lashes look full, dark, and long even without mascara.
Twirling some coconut oil through your lashes with a spooly is a great way to make your lashes look darker if you’re trying to stay away from mascara. It can also help keep your eyelashes from thinning and falling out due to it’s bacterial fighting properties.
Be careful using this if you have really sensitive skin though, because it can clog your pores! It should be fine to do if you only use a little and only wear it during the day.
You could also use vaseline!
Herbal Teas
Drinking herbal tea is another method you can use to keep your skin clear. Herbal teas can have lots of different antioxidants and benefits for your skin.
There are tons of different herbal teas you can try to help clear up your skin and keep it looking healthy. My all-time favorite brand for tea that is good for your skin is this one. The tea bags also have cute lil quotes on them. I love it.
Minimize Stress
It is a sad fact that stress causes breakouts, because it is really hard to stay stress-free in this day and age. If you find yourself stressed often, it might benefit your skin to try some stress relief techniques, such as yoga, meditation, etc.

Be Confident
Always remember that no matter what society tells you, you are beautiful just the way you are! It isn’t makeup or pretty clothes that make people beautiful, it’s confidence.
If you are confident in yourself, you’ll always look pretty without makeup.
