The Best New Year’s Resolutions For Students

1. Get Better Grades

If you’ve been struggling with your grades at all, this could be a great thing to add to your list of new year’s resolutions. With the new year comes a new semester and a fresh start. Start off on the right foot with school by setting the intention to get better grades!

If you’re wanting to work on getting better grades, I have some blog posts that will help you out! I managed to graduate college with a 3.94 GPA, and here are some posts where I share my best tips for getting good grades:

2. Create More Balance

I don’t know about you, but something I struggled a lot with in college was balance. Some people (like me) focus most of their energy on studying, and some people focus most of their energy on socialization and social activities.

If balance is something you struggle with, adding this resolution to your list could be a great idea!

3. Learn To Prioritize

Something that helped me a ton with creating more balance was learning how to prioritize. Learning what is most important to you and intentionally figuring out how to put that first is so powerful!

One thing that really changed the game for me when it came to prioritizing in college was learning about the Eisenhower Matrix. If you’ve never heard of it before, I definitely recommend giving it a google!! It is basically a way to figure out how to prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. Literally changed my life!!!

4. Exercise More

If you’re like me and school tends to make you stagnant from sitting around looking at a screen so often, exercising more might be a good thing to add to your new years resolutions list!

Exercising can be great for both your mental and physical health! If you have issues with exercising, I’d recommend looking into engaging forms of exercise, like rock climbing, taking a dance class, etc. It can also help to do things in groups. Last winter my friends and I took up rock climbing for a bit and it was SO fun!

5. Get More Sleep

Sleep is something that tends to fall through the cracks for a lot of college students. If you struggle with getting enough sleep, it might be a good idea to set the intention to get better sleep this year! The other resolutions I’ve talked about already, such as prioritizing, might be able to help you with this one!

6. Read More Books

Something that was always on my new years resolutions list, without fail, was reading more. I typically liked to try to read more books for fun rather than for school/ education purposes because that wasn’t really something I struggled with. But if you struggle with reading in general, setting the intention to read more books, whether that’s for education purposes or for fun, is a great resolution idea!

If you’re like me and would like to read more books purely for enjoyment, I have lots of blog posts where I talk about great books to read!

College is such a busy time in life that it can be hard to find time to be creative. Creativity is so good for the soul, though, so it is so important to make some time to be creative! It can also be great for stress relief in college.

An easy and low maintenance way to be more creative is by using a coloring book like this one. I’m obsessed with this one because it’s magical and whimsical and so cute!

14. Spend More Time With Friends

Something I really struggled with in college was making time to hang out with my friends. If you’re like me, this could be a great thing to add to your list of new year resolutions.

A good way to make more time for friends is to write it into your schedule. You could carve out time once a week, once a month, whatever works for you, just to hang out with friends.

15. Practice Mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness is a great way to relieve stress in college. There are tons of different ways to do this, but my favorite are meditation, breath work, and yoga!

16. Be More Sustainable/ Eco Friendly

Having a travel plan and trips to look forward to can make stressful times in college so much more bearable!

21. Practice Good Financial Habits

I wish I would have educated myself about good financial habits SO much sooner. Thinking about money in college gave me tons of anxiety so I kind of just ignored thinking about it or making a plan.

Even if you choose not to implement any tips, knowledge is power and it is best to be educated about good financial habits so you don’t ever get yourself into a bad spot (speaking from experience). I highly recommend @queerd.co on tik tok for financial tips!

22. Keep Your Space Clean

When you let your space dirty it can start to affect you mentally, so one of the best things you can do for yourself is to keep your space clean. If you want to try to stay tidy this year this might be a good thing to add to your resolution list.
